Why do parents look for a faster way to make up bottles?
When a newborn arrives, daily life changes completely. Between nappies, sleepless nights and frequent feeds, even making up a bottle can become stressful – especially when your baby is hungry and can’t wait. The traditional method means boiling the kettle, using the water while it’s still hot enough, adding the powder and then cooling the milk to the right temperature.
The Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep® Pro combines these steps in one machine which, according to the manufacturer, makes a bottle in under two minutes.
How does the “Hot Shot” work?
- The machine first dispenses a small amount of hot water above 70°C into the bottle with the powder. This is the temperature the World Health Organization (WHO) and the NHS recommend for making up powdered formula, because the powder is not sterile.
- It then adds cooler filtered water so the feed is ready straight away.

What to watch out for
- The machine doesn’t replace hygiene: bottles and teats still need washing and sterilising (see our sterilisers and bottle warmers).
- Clean the machine regularly and change the filter when prompted.
- The NHS advises checking that the water from a formula machine is at least 70°C when it mixes with the powder.
- Use a made-up feed within 2 hours and throw away any leftovers (WHO).
- Follow the instructions on the formula pack and your health visitor’s or paediatrician’s advice.
Who is it for?
It is most useful for families who formula-feed exclusively or mostly and make several bottles a day – especially at night. Frequently asked questions
Does the Perfect Prep® Pro kill all bacteria in formula powder?
No home method guarantees complete sterility. According to the WHO and NHS, water at 70°C or above greatly reduces the risk, which is why the Hot Shot works this way. Clean equipment and using feeds quickly matter just as much.
How fast does it make a bottle?
Under two minutes according to the manufacturer, depending on the volume.
How often should I change the filter?
The manufacturer says about every 3 months with typical use; the machine reminds you.
Can I make bottles in advance?
It is safest to make each bottle fresh. Use a made-up feed within 2 hours and throw away leftovers.
Do I still need a steriliser?
Yes. The machine makes the feed, but bottles, teats and caps still need washing and sterilising.
