When is a baby ready for a high chair?
You need a high chair when you start weaning, usually at around 6 months. According to the NHS, the signs of readiness are that your baby can:
- stay in a sitting position and hold their head steady,
- coordinate their eyes, hands and mouth (look at food, pick it up and put it in their mouth by themselves),
- swallow food rather than push it back out with their tongue.
During meals your baby should sit upright and be strapped in with the harness. Never leave them in the high chair unattended.
